A.

The states of Oregon and Washington do not require a physician referral for physical therapy. Q?

I just had orthopedic surgery; will physical therapy help me heal faster?

A.

Yes! At Everybody Physical Therapy, we will work with your doctor to follow the protocol and specific course of rehab that will help you heal and recover optimally. By designing and supervising individualized programs, we will help you recover as quickly as possible and get back to your life.

Q?

Is physical therapy like massage therapy or chiropractic care?

A.

Various types of manual therapy are typically a portion of our treatment if your condition would benefit from it. We never use massage as the only type of treatment for a condition and many times it is not what we believe the patient would benefit from the most.

At Everybody Physical Therapy we also use several forms of manual therapy during our treatments. We do not perform high velocity thrusting (manipulations) like many chiropractors do. Our goal is to get the patient pain free and independent as soon as possible so that they don't need continued therapy. We feel that this is best accomplished with the inclusion of exercise to improve strength and flexibility so that the body can heal itself.

Q?

Will my physical therapy be covered by insurance?

A.

Yes, probably. A large number of insurance plans cover physical therapy treatment.

Most insurance companies offer coverage for physical therapy services. However, the amount of coverage varies from policy to policy, so be sure to check your insurance company’s handbook or call your insurance company to verify your benefits for physical therapy. You may have co-pay per visit, or be responsible for meeting a deductible.

It is important to remember that the doctor’s prescription does not mean that you have authorization from your insurance company for physical therapy. We are providers for most insurance companies and managed health care organizations. We will do all we can to help you through the process of understanding your coverage prior to treatment. Check with your insurance plan administrator or contact our clinic to find out if physical therapy is covered by your insurance.

Q?

Will I have a copay for my therapy appointment?

A.

Based on information from the insurance companies, we are required to collect copays at the time of service for each appointment that you come to. If we do not receive a copay at the time of service, we will bill you for the copay.

Q?

How long will it take for me to get better?

A.

At your evaluation we can give you approximately how long we think you will need physical therapy intervention. However, the length of time can be quite variable and is determined by many factors unique to you. A few factors include the extent of damaged tissue, how long you have had the injury, if you smoke, your eating/drinking habits, your emotional state, the state of your immune system, your genetics, and other factors.

Q?

What should I wear to my appointment?

A.

Please wear loose fitting clothing or bring some with you to change when you get here. If you have a knee or hip injury bring shorts. We do have hospital gowns here at the clinic as well.
